Eat Desserts More Often!

I had lunch today at the wonderful Tam's Deli. It's a Vietnamese restaurant tucked into a business park on Lamar, just north of Highway 183. They are well known for their Vietnamese sandwiches. That's right, sandwiches. Bits of Vietnamese dishes tucked into French bread. Fusion cuisine before it Fusion had a name. The sandwiches originated during the time Vietnam was a French colony. When you don't want a plain ol' sandwich, try one of these. I had the roasted chicken sandwich. A chunk of French bread filled with roasted chicken, string carrots, peppers, some kind of sauce and some mayonnaise. Normally, I can't stand mayo, but it really complimented the flavors in this sandwich. I'm no expert in Vietnamese food, but for under $5, it's on my lunch-list. I'm definitely gonna have to visit more Vietnamese restaurants to learn more about these sandwiches

We were sitting near the register and dessert display. Those of us nearest the display fighting hard to resist ordering dessert. So of course, the conversation turned to the best desserts we'd had. It occurred to me that I don't normally order dessert. I do really enjoy the chocolate volcano thing at Chili's, but I wouldn't call it a great dessert. It's mostly just sugar. The Tres Leches at Churrasco's in Houston, now, that's a great dessert. Soft, creamy cake and vanilla sauce with bits of chocolate thrown on top. That's living.

Now I wonder, should I order dessert more often? Am I missing out on some great food? My lunch companions immediately rattled off specific and sometimes strange-sounding desserts immediately. I could only think of one. I've had desserts before, but only the cake popped into my head. I think I will start ordering dessert more often. With the holidays coming up, I may be in for more trouble than it's worth. This would be a great New Year's Eve resolution! Eat desserts more often!
